Preparation Method

1. Wash varagu arisi thoroughly 4 times and keep aside.

2. Wash moong dal and keep aside.

3. Boil milk and water.

4. In a cooker or cooker pan, dry roast moong dal till golden brown and a nice aroma comes.

5. Pour into it the boiling milk and water.

6. Add varagu arisi.

7. Add salt and pressure cook for 4 whistles.

8. When the pressure in the cooker subsides mix sugar, cardamom powder and fruits to the pongal.

9. In a pan heat ghee and fry cashew nuts and raisins and add as garnish.

10. Serve hot or warm.

Notes:
  • Varagu arisi contains a lot of impurities, so make sure you wash it at least 4 times.
  • If you like the fruits crunchy then add them at the end.
  • If you want the apples a little tender then sauté for 2 minutes and add them to the pongal.
  • Do not sauté banana and orange.

  1. When it comes to buying fresh fruits online, the main objective for most of the people is to buy locally grown fruits, which are in season. However, there are times when you want to buy exotic fruits or imported fruits just to satiate your taste buds.
